2018 Welcome Letter

together to find a win-win solution. Please remember problems are part of being human!  It is how we approach them, collaborate, and solve them that makes all the difference. We cannot control all the events in our lives, but we can control our response(s) to these events and influence a better outcome because of our response(s).

Another part of the human condition is making mistakes.  All of us will make mistakes this year (yes, that includes the principal!), but what is important is how we handle our mistakes and what we learn from our mistakes.  The difference maker in successful people’s lives is how they improve themselves each day, and make a positive impact on those around them. This is part of having a “growth mindset” and one of our goals at the middle school.  The first day of school is approaching quickly (August 15th), so please mark your calendars with the following important dates.

  • Thursday, August 9th – Packet Pickup – 8:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. – Main Office.  Also, pre-ordered school supplies may be picked up at the same time.

  • Monday, August 13th – 6:00 p.m. - 5th Grade Welcome and Chromebook pick-up (cafeteria).

  • Monday, August 13th - 6:30 p.m. - Welcome to Students New to the District (grades 6, 7, and 8 - choir room).

  • Wednesday, August 15th - 8:00 a.m. - First day of school!  Returning students in grades 6, 7, and 8 will receive their Chromebooks this morning.

    • Note!  8th graders do NOT start their high school foreign language and math classes until Thursday, August 16th.  ALL students should report to MMS by 8:00 a.m.

  • Thursday, August 16th – Back to School Night - Grades 6, 7, and 8.

    • 7th and 8th grade - 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.

    • 6th grade – 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.

This school year has the potential to be the best year of our lives, and one day at a time we can make that wish come true.  Welcome to MMS, the 2018-19 school year, and the success it offers to us all.

Sincerely,

Tom Olson

Principal
