About Madeira

City of Madeira
Madeira, located 10 miles northeast of downtown Cincinnati, was again recognized in May, 2011 by Cincy Magazine as the #1 Suburb in the Greater Cincinnati area. This rating is based on the recent sales values of housing, our very low crime rate and the high quality of the award winning Madeira City Schools. Madeira was also recognized by BusinessWeek as the 40th “best place to raise kids” in the U.S.A. These rankings were based upon cost of living, quality of the local schools, safety and recreation opportunities. Reinforcing this ranking, U.S. News and World Report recently awarded the Madeira City School District a Silver Medal as having one of the top public high schools in the country. Madeira High School consistently ranks in the top 10 public high schools in Ohio.

Madeira City Schools

The Madeira City School District has earned the designation of 'Excellent' on the state report card every year since the inception of the rating system. Our students are among the highest performers in the state on the ACT, SAT, and state achievement tests. The Ohio Department of Education has recognized Madeira High School (2006) and Madeira Elementary School (2006, 2007) with the State Superintendent's Award of Distinction. This award is presented to schools in which 75 percent of all students, including students with disabilities, scored proficient or above on the state achievement tests or the Ohio Graduation Tests in reading and mathematics. The average district-wide student/teacher ratio is 13:1, with a per pupil expenditure of approximately $11,292 per year.

In the fall of 2011 for the second consecutive year, the Madeira City School District was one of fewer than 400 school districts across 43 states and Canada honored by the College Board on the second annual AP® Honor Roll. Honorees are named for increasing enrollment in Advanced Placement coursework while maintaining or increasing the percentage of students earning scores of 3 or higher on AP exams which indicates that the district is successfully identifying motivated, academically-prepared students who are likely to benefit most from AP coursework. Since 2009, Madeira City Schools has increased the number of students participating in AP courses while more than 70% of those students still earn scores of 3 or higher, the score typically needed to earn college credit.

Overwhelming support for a 2004 bond issue provided funds to build a new elementary school, a new middle school and a complete renovation of the high school. Students moved into their new classrooms and buildings for the start of the 2006-07 school year. In addition, our community demonstrated its support again in 2011 by passing a 6.9 mill operating levy.

An expert and caring staff, highly qualified administrators, committed board of education members, involved parents, and a supportive community are the assets that shape Madeira's successes.
We appreciate your interest in our schools. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or if we can be of service to you in any way.

Cincinnati, OH

Cincinnati is the county seat of Hamilton County. Settled in 1788, the city is located north of the Ohio River at the Ohio-Kentucky border, near Indiana. The population within the city limits is 296,943 according to the 2010 census, making it Ohio's third-largest city. According to the 2010 Census Bureau estimate, the Cincinnati metropolitan area had a population of 2,130,151, the 27th most populous Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) in the United States. Residents of Cincinnati are called Cincinnatians.

In the early 19th century, Cincinnati was the first American boomtown in the heart of the country to rival the larger coastal cities in size and wealth. As the first major inland city in the country, it is sometimes thought of as the first purely American city. Cincinnati is home to two major sports teams; the Cincinnati Reds and the Cincinnati Bengals, a major tennis tournament, the Cincinnati Masters, and home to large events such as the Flying Pig Marathon, the Ohio Valley Jazz Festival, and the Thanksgiving Day race. The University of Cincinnati traces its foundation to the Medical College of Ohio, which was founded in 1819. Cincinnati is known for its large collection of historic architecture. Over-the-Rhine, a neighborhood just to the north of Downtown Cincinnati, boasts among the world's largest collections of Italianate architecture, rivaling similar neighborhoods in New York City, Vienna and Munich in size and scope. Constructed mainly between 1850-1900, Over-the-Rhine was the center of life for German immigrants for many years, and is one of the largest historic districts listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
