Madeira presents 'Our Town' Nov. 15-17

Joel Kimling, Burke Evans and Eryn Kramer rehearse a scene from "Our Town."

Thornton Wilder’s American masterpiece, "Our Town," is coming to Madeira High School.

The timeless story of life is presented in this 20th century drama. Though set in rural New Hampshire, "Our Town" is truly about “our town,” be it Madeira, Indian Hill, Mariemont or whichever town is home.

Senior Sharon Ryan plays the stage manager, the omniscient narrator of the play. Frequently addressing the audience directly, the part demands a great deal of talent and effort. Ryan, who is planning to study theater in college, provides both in abundance.

Joel Kimling, another senior who intends to major in theatre, portrays George Gibbs, a boy who becomes a man over the course of a play. His love interest is Emily Webb, played by junior Eryn Kramer. In the third act, Emily returns to her hometown in the past, only to realize the importance of living in the moment.

Other major roles include George’s mother and father, played by junior Maggie Griffin and senior Burke Evans; and the Webb parents, played by juniors Luke Graeter and Taylor Kneip. Together, the interactions of these two families shed light on love, community, and the wonderful nature of living.

Tickets are $10 and on sale at www.seatyourself.biz/madeira. Only a limited number of tickets will be available at the door and all seats are reserved. Performances are 7:30 p.m. Nov. 15-17 and 2 p.m. Nov. 17. All performances are at Madeira High School’s Medert Auditorium, 7465 Loannes Drive.
