A Message From Tom Olson, Principal
April 9, 2013
Last Thursday evening we hosted Steve Smith, Director of Loyalty Marketing for Cincinnati Bell, along with Gwen Bender, Chief Juvenile Prosecutor for Hamilton County at the school to hear issues our students face in the digital age. The program was very informative. We appreciated all who came and the questions that were asked – thank you! Here are a few “take aways” from last evening’s event:
-
Technology is a good thing – it is here to stay.
-
We must help our students understand the “rules of engagement” with technology – much like we do when they begin driving.
-
It is okay for parents to sit down with their son or daughter and review all the apps on the phone.
-
Warning – if anyone has a password protected app (such as “photovault”), that should be a red flag something may be hidden on the phone.
-
Cyberbullying, sexting, and on-line privacy are issues we will continue to face – being open and honest with students about the dangers and consequences of posting, sending, and viewing on-line information is the best course of action.
In addition to these valuable tips, Mr. Smith shared the following web-sites with the audience. These are places you may visit to find out more about on-line safety and ways in which you can help your son or daughter understand the rules of engagement in the 21st Century.

We will be looking to bring the Cincinnati Bell program to our students, but did want the parents to be able to hear this information first. Thank you again for attending last evening!
