Welcome to February!  Our official mid-term day for the third grading period is this Friday, February 5th.  Many of you continue to monitor Progress Book and converse with teachers on a regular basis about your child’s achievement.  Thank you for that!

The School Board approved Tim Weber as the district’s new Assistant Superintendent at their January 11 meeting. Weber will join newly appointed Superintendent Kenji Matsudo next year in leading the district.

Twelve Madeira students were winnersat the regional level of the Scholastic Art Awards - the nation’s longest-running, most prestigious recognition initiative for creative students in grades seven through twelve.

Students from Jiangsu in Eastern China have started their week of classes at Madeira High School as part of the Sino-American Youth Ambassador Program.

Congratulations to the Madeira City School District's Treasurer Department for earning an Auditor of State Award!

The 11th Annual MMS Geography Bee was held on December 15th.  Twenty contestants in fifth through eighth grade competed.  Ethan Lex, 7th grader, won the bee.  Murray Katkin, 5th grader, was runner-up.  The other contestants were as follows:  Zach Bisselberg, Maryn Dubay, Jessie Miller, Kyle Silvestain, Ronan Hurley, Niklas Polanco, Rene Polanco, Owen Tucker, Sean Weismann, Ethan Bisselberg, Lexi Born, Katy Dimmitt, Luke Thompson, Diego Arredondo, Nic Bartson, Olivia Hopkin, Zhuo-Nan Huang, and Max Schmitz.  All students in grades 5-8 at MMS took a school-wide geography test in November.  The top five students in each grade level competed in the bee.  Ethan Lex won a medallion from the National Geographic Society and a $25 gift certificate from The Bookshelf in Madeira.  Congratulations to all contestants.  To see additional phot's clin on "Photo Gallery" to your left.

On December 8th, nineteen students competed in the 10th Annual MMS Spelling Bee. Maddie Luther, sixth grader, won the bee. Kate Lex, fifth grader, was the runner-up. The other contestants were as follows: Michael Cedillo, Murray Katkin, Charlie Manning, Milo Nelson, Ronan Hurley, Rene Polanco, Owen Tucker, Steven Wu, Quinton Blackwelder, Lexi Born, James Carpenter, Ethan Henry, Diego Arredondo, Grant Breit, Zhuo-Nan Huang, Payton Oliver, and Max Schmitz.
