Our Educator of the Year

Educator of the year

Madeira High School Latin teacher Jennifer Bruening has been named the Madeira City Schools Educator of the Year, and will represent the district at the 2018 Celebrate Excellence event in May.

The Hamilton County Education Foundation (HCEF) sponsors the Celebrate Excellence Program. Through the provision of scholarships to teachers and educational professionals, the Foundation created the annual Celebrate Excellence Award to recognize and honor excellent educators throughout the public school districts of Hamilton County.

Madeira staff, parents and community members were asked to nominate a Madeira educator who possesses a high commitment to student achievement, the ability to challenge students at all levels and someone who extends him or herself to make a positive difference.

Mrs. Bruening, lovingly called “Magistra” by students and faculty at MHS, was surprised with the announcement by Superintendent Kenji Matsudo at a Latin Club meeting with over 100 students in attendance. A 2002 graduate of Madeira High School, Mrs. Bruening is the advisor of the MHS Latin Club she was once a member of. Annually she takes approximately 50 MHS Latin students in grades 8 – 12 to the Ohio Junior Classical League (OJCL) convention in Columbus, where over 600 students, teachers and parents from across the state celebrate the study of Latin and classical civilizations.

Madeira began participating in the HCEF’s annual educator recognition event in 2015; Mrs. Bruening is the fourth educator to represent the district.
