New Learning Spaces at MES

MES

Several hundred Madeira community members got their first look at an exciting change to one of their schools when the district held an Open House for a two-story, 25,000-square-foot addition at Madeira Elementary School (MES).

The addition was built to accommodate the district’s increasing enrollment when studies indicated that they’d be running out of middle school-level classroom space. MES had the area to add classrooms and parking, so plans were made to add on to the elementary school and reconfigure it as a K-5 building.

Construction on the addition began in September 2022 and was completed just eleven months later. The 2023-2024 school year started as scheduled and a few weeks later, Madeira Elementary School opened its doors to the community for an Open House of the new educational areas.

Visitors had the opportunity to see twelve new classrooms, a new media center, gifted room, and STEAM lab. They also had a chance to see renovated and repurposed areas in the existing building - upgraded conference rooms, band, music and choir rooms, an expanded nurses’ area, counseling office, and team rooms, all with LED high-efficiency lighting and new furnishings.

“Madeira is a special community with great schools, and it was exciting to see so many people walking the halls at the Open House,” Madeira Schools Superintendent Kenji Matsudo said. “We wanted to show our Madeira families and friends the updated facility that will help the district continue to support the excellent programs and opportunities that they’ve come to expect.”
