Madeira Preschool has been named a Five Star Program through Ohio's quality rating and improvement system, Step Up To Quality (SUTQ). Madeira’s ranking is the highest level a preschool program can attain.
SUTQ is a rating and improvement system administered by the Ohio Department of Education and the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. It recognizes and promotes learning and development programs across the state that meet quality standards beyond required health and safety regulations. These ratings mark the first time any programs licensed by the Ohio Department of Education have been evaluated beyond state requirements.
The Preschool was rated in four areas; Learning and Development, Staff Qualifications & Professional Development, Administrative & Leadership Practices, Family & Community Partnerships. Significant components of Five Star Programs are low staff/child ratios, higher staff education levels, intentional and purposeful student activities and experiences, and a program that values its families and community.
After a site verification visit to Madeira Preschool’s classrooms, staff members were interviewed. Director Mary Ann McPherson was pleased the extensive evaluation process resulted in the Preschool receiving the highest rating. “This confirms the dedication of our staff,” she stated. “Their commitment to providing the best early childhood program for Madeira preschoolers is to be commended.”
An Open House for new families interested in the Preschool will be held in January. For more information contact Mary Ann McPherson at 985-6080 ext 4135 or mmcpherson@madeiracityschools.org.
