Our Scholastic Art Winners

Our Scholastic Art Winners
Diane Nichols

Six Madeira students received Scholastic Art Awards from the nation’s longest-running, most prestigious recognition initiative for creative students in grades 7-12. Each year nearly 5,000 pieces of art are submitted within the region, with only approximately 20% accepted. All artwork is blindly adjudicated by members of our regional Scholastic Art Affiliate, the Art Academy of Cincinnati. The selection of winners was guided by the three core principles of the Scholastic Awards — originality, technical skills, and the emergence of personal vision or voice.

Four students from Madeira High School (MHS) received awards: Cora Chalfie (Grade 12) Stockroom Chair, Drawing, Gold Key; Maggie Meyer (Grade 11) Wild Horses, Mixed Media, Honorable Mention; Dustin Opichka (Grade 12 ) Home, Painting, Honorable Mention; Isabella Sammut (Grade 12) Meredith and Derek, Drawing, Silver Key. The MHS art teacher is Jill Dulgeroff.

Two Madeira Middle School (MMS) students received Scholastic Art Awards: Noelle Horne (Grade 7) The Poppies, Mixed Media, Honorable Mention; Finnian Hurley (Grade 8) Dragonstone Castle, Ceramics & Glass, Silver Key. The MMS art teacher is Liz Rossi-Riel.

Award-winning artwork will be on display at the Art Academy of Cincinnati from February 6–22, with a regional awards ceremony held on February 6 from 5 - 8 pm.
