Madeira High School is proud to announce the hiring of Craig Black as the new Head Coach of the Madeira Softball program.

Coach Black brings more than a decade of varsity head coaching experience at the high school level, along with a strong background in program building, athlete development, and leadership. Most recently, he served as the Varsity Softball Head Coach at Cincinnati Country Day School. Prior to that, he led varsity softball programs at Princeton High School, St. Bernard-Elmwood Place High School, Bethel-Tate High School, and Western Hills High School.

Across his coaching career, Coach Black has guided programs through growth and transition while emphasizing fundamentals, accountability, and competitive excellence. In addition to softball, he has served as a football coach at both the high school and junior high levels and has coached basketball for nine seasons, further demonstrating his versatility and commitment to student-athlete development.

Coach Black also brings a strong educational and professional background to Madeira. He earned his Master of Social Work from Case Western Reserve University in May 2024 and became a Licensed Social Worker in the State of Ohio in August 2024. His experience in mental health, combined with his coaching background, supports a holistic approach to student-athlete growth both on and off the field. His skill set includes recruiting, fundraising, developing fundamentals, program building, and community outreach—areas that align closely with Madeira’s values and long-term vision for its athletic programs.

“We are excited to welcome Coach Black to Madeira,” said Athletic Director Chris O’Brien. “His experience, leadership, and commitment to developing student-athletes as people and competitors make him a great fit for our softball program and school community.”

Coach Black is eager to begin working with Madeira student-athletes and families and looks forward to building strong relationships while continuing the tradition of Madeira softball.
